Overview

Looking for a gentle soul who wants nothing more than to be by your side? Marley the blonde dachshund might be your perfect companion.

Marley is a sweet 7-year-old purebred dachshund weighing 15 lbs with a beautiful blonde coat. He came to Little Paws as a surrender and is now searching for a loving home where he can feel safe and cherished.

This affectionate boy is a true couch potato who loves nothing more than being petted and spending quiet time with his people. He's a sensitive soul with a gentle heart.

Environment

Marley has a low energy level and is very much a couch potato. While he loves walks, he doesn't require intense exercise—he's happy with leisurely strolls and lots of snuggle time. He's still learning leash manners but enjoys his walking adventures.

For potty needs, Marley currently uses a belly band. A fenced yard would be helpful for him but isn't absolutely necessary if you're committed to regular potty breaks.

Marley loves his crate and sees it as his safe haven. However, he thrives on companionship and can become anxious when left alone. He'll do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, or where he has another calm dog companion to keep him company. He's also quite nervous, especially when there's a lot of noise, so he needs a home without shared walls where he can feel secure in a quieter environment.

Marley travels well in the car once he settles in, though he may be anxious at first.

Pets & People

Marley is good with people of all ages and is gentle with everyone he meets. He loves being petted and will soak up all the affection you can give him. With strangers, he's friendly once he's had a moment to adjust—he just needs a little time to feel comfortable in new situations.

With other dogs, Marley is shy at first but does well once he's had time to warm up. He'd do wonderfully in a home with another calm, gentle dog who could be his buddy and help him feel more confident when his people need to step out.

Marley has a normal relationship with food and treats—he enjoys them but isn't overly anxious or possessive about them.

Health & Special Needs

Marley is a healthy boy who will be having a dental cleaning to ensure his teeth are in great shape. Beyond routine care and his need for a calm, patient home that understands his anxiety, he doesn't have any special medical requirements.

Location

Marley is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Please email miamidachshundclub@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Marli is $325.00.

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
