Weighing in at a mighty 4 pounds, this longhaired little lady is fully spayed, up to date on her shots, and powered almost entirely by zoomies and curiosity. If there is a toy, she will find it. If there is a crinkle, she will investigate it. If there is a dangling string, she will defeat it.
Kalis is your classic playful kitten with a flair for the dramatic—equal parts fearless explorer, professional pouncer, and champion napper. One minute she’s scaling the imaginary mountain that is your couch, the next she’s curled into a fluffy cinnamon roll, recharging for her next adventure.
She brings sparkle, chaos (the fun kind), and a whole lot of personality in a very small, very soft package. If your home is ready for laughter, toy mice in unexpected places, and a tiny orange shadow following you around, Kalis is ready to make it her kingdom.

Our kitten/cat adoption fees vary on age, ($25-125 +TAX) special needs, lonely heart status (cats that have been with us 6+ months), and for our senior to seniors program. Our adoption fees include the following: all of our cats/kittens are current on vaccinations (FVRCP series and Rabies if over 3 months of age) at the point of adoption, dewormed, tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), treated for fleas/ticks/earmites in addition to being spayed or neutered once the cat reaches 2 lbs in weight. All cats and kittens adopted from the shelter are microchipped. Adoption fees may vary in special circumstances.
Because we are on a busy street, we require that all cats leaving the shelter be in a carrier. All pets are up for adoption until an approved application is processed and their adoption fee is paid.

BRHS formed in 1998 to help the Brookings Animal Control Department find homes for stray animals.The unclaimed, homeless cats and dogs from Animal Control are BRHS' priority. Those unclaimed are transferred to BRHS where they get the necessary wellness care and are spayed/neutered. Animal Control brings any sick or injured animals to BRHS for immediate care.
In 2013 BRHS was very fortunate to move into its present location across from the Brookings Airport. The building was built specifically to house animals and provides a separate dog kennel area, rooms to house cats, natural lighting, and proper ventilation throughout the whole facility. There are also medical isolation, quarantine, treatment, and surgery rooms.
BRHS has been recognized for and has won multiple awards from both city and national organizations, including several Dog Rescue Awards and a nomination for the Governor’s Award.
