My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zena

Zena is a beautiful 4-year-old Shepherd/Lab-type mixed breed weighing approximately 40-50 pounds the perfect medium size for someone who wants an athletic companion without a large-breed footprint. She has a sleek, glossy black coat with a lovely touch of white on her chest that makes her truly striking in the sunlight.

If youve ever wanted a true Velcro dog, Zena is ready for the job. During her photo session, she stayed right by the photographers wifes side the entire time happiest simply being close to her person. She bonds deeply and loves with her whole heart. Zena is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and people-oriented. She really enjoyed getting out and being around people, soaking up attention and taking in the world with confidence. Whether its a walk, a car ride, or just relaxing at home, her favorite place is wherever you are. At 4 years old, shes past the puppy stage but still full of life and engagement. She offers that wonderful balance mature enough to settle nicely, yet still playful and ready for adventure.

If youre looking for a loyal, medium-sized companion with a beautiful black coat, soulful eyes, and a heart that wants nothing more than to be by your side, Zena may be your girl. Apply at www.caninecollective.org.

Our adoption process takes several steps and cannot be completed in one day. All of our volunteers work full time and assist the rescue in their spare time. Please allow 2-3 business days for a response.

* Applicants must be willing to make a ten plus year commitment to their new family member.

* Applicants must commit to daily exercise, walks, trips to the dog park or play in the back yard. A well exercised dog is a happy well behaved dog!

* Applicants living in a rental property must provide proof of pet policy from landlord.

* Applicants must provide a veterinarian reference and if there are existing dogs in the household. All pets must be spayed/neutered and current on all shots and heartworm medication.

*Please allow at least a 7-14 day adjustment period for your new dog. Rescue dogs go thru a lot of changes and need a few days to get used to their new surroundings and adjust. Adopting a dog should be a serious commitment, so please be willing to work out the kinks. Our dogs aren't perfect but with proper training and guidance they make awesome, loving pets.

*Our adoption fees vary based on the age and medical needs of the dogs.
