Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Gingersnap, a gentle soul who has overcome more than most dogs do in a lifetime. Rescued from a heartbreaking situation in the Ozarks where she survived harsh elements and unsafe conditions, Gingersnap has spent the last few months being a devoted mother in her foster home. Now that her puppies have grown and she’s been spayed, she is finally ready to prioritize herself. While her past was filled with neglect, her future is a blank slate—she just needs a patient family to help her fill it with love and security.
Because of her history, Gingersnap is quite shy and still learning that humans can be a source of comfort rather than fear. She is dog-friendly and truly shines when she has a canine companion to lean on; in fact, she would benefit greatly from a social, happy "sibling" dog to show her the ropes and boost her confidence. If you have a quiet home and a heart big enough to help this resilient girl blossom, Gingersnap is waiting to start her real life with you.
Gingersnap would do best in a home without young children.

Here’s what to expect when you arrive at Tails Humane Society:
A staff member will ask you what sort of pet you are looking for and then will provide you with information about specific pets that appear to be a good fit for your family, taking into consideration such factors as: kids, level of activity, your pet experience, other animals currently in the home, etc. You will be encouraged to interact with the pet or pets of your choice in a private visiting room. We believe that bringing a new pet into your home is an important decision so you’ll have plenty of time to make your decision without feeling rushed. Staff and volunteers will be available throughout this time to answer any questions you may have. Once you’ve made your choice, an adoption counselor will review the adoption contract with you.
You’ll pay the adoption fee. Then you’ll take your new family member home with you!
An animal can be put on hold in person at the TAILS facility during regular adoption hours.

Our mission: Saving the lives of companion animals through rescue, adoption and spay/neuter; advocating for pets in our region.
Tails Humane Society is a limited admission animal shelter providing a safe haven for over 2,200 animals each year. We are committed to providing each animal the time and medical care they need to have their best chance at adoption.
Tails was established in 1999 by a group of local animal advocates dedicated to bringing a comprehensive animal shelter to DeKalb. We operated out of an old farmhouse until 2005 when we cut the ribbon on our Barber Greene facility. In 2009, we opened our low cost Spay/Neuter Clinic providing quality, affordable sterilization services to the public. We continue to grow and strengthen our programs and service as we continue to save lives.
