Zarek is a 13-week-old Shepherd mix (best guess!) with a handsome black coat, a bright white belly, and adorable white paws. Weighing in at 13 pounds, this sweet boy is expected to grow into a medium-sized dog (26–60 lbs). Zarek is a fun, sensitive, and energetic puppy who adjusted very well to his foster home. He’s full of playful personality, especially when he lets out his tiny growls to convince his sister to play! He LOVES tug-of-war with rope toys and enjoys chasing games around the couch.
Zarek is still working on potty training and is learning how to signal when he needs to go outside. He isn’t crate-trained yet, but he settles nicely once placed inside and is making great progress. He’s vocal when he wants to play or when he’s ready to start the day, but he does not bark or whine for long periods when left alone.
As a very puppy-energetic boy with working-breed traits, Zarek will thrive in a home ready to provide consistent training, structure, and plenty of exercise. A fenced yard may be beneficial as he grows, though it’s still too early to say for certain.
Zarek is a playful, loving little guy with a sensitive heart, ready to find a forever family to grow up with.

The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.
Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.
Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.
We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.
We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
