Halo - 9 months & 29lbs (as of 1/31) Beagle/Hound, Mix, Spayed

Level of dog ownership experience required:
INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it’s also tremendous work. Puppies’ personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they’re a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup’s evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult.
Energy level:
MEDIUM – Very young puppies sleep and nap a lot, but their energy level skyrockets when they become teens (4 months to around a year). As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day at a minimum. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)

Thier Foster Parent Says: "Halo is just the best city pup! She is extremely social and outgoing, with puppy energy for extra bursts of fun. We start the day with breakfast, a 45-minute walk, post walk-zoomies (the cutest), and then a little bit of training. She knows sit and is working on "lay down" and "touch"! During the week, I leave her home alone with a kong and she had some initial anziety howling (she is a hound, after all) but is already getting better at settling down quicker and I expect she will lose her anxiety all-together in her forever home! She's a social butterfly on walks and wants to say hi to every human and dog. She's also got a very stereotypical hound nose and wants to sniff every single smell in Manhattan, so walks are a bit zig-zaggy as she sniffs her way through the city, and you have to be super vigilant as she will put pretty much anything (food or not) in her mouth if she can get to it quick enough! When we're home together, she's either curled up somewhere napping, or on the hunt for the next thing to sniff or chew. The puppy really comes out in her here, so when she starts to wander around looking for mischief, we redirect with either some playtime or mental stimulation like treat hunting or training for a little bit until she tuckers out again. She's working on potty training, but is still a puppy so we try not to let her go more than 5 hours without a potty break. And if she does ever use the bathroom while I'm gone, it's on a pee pad every time! Overall, she is the goofiest, sweetest, perfectly sized city pup. She'd fit in seamlessly with anyone looking for an energetic young sweetheart to complete their fam!"
Level of dog ownership experience required:
BEGINNER – “Beginner” doesn’t necessarily mean easy as all dogs will require time, work, and patience, but we predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale because of their breed/age combo. Potentially a good fit for someone who has relevant dog care experience (fostering, dog sitting) and is looking to adopt their first pup..

TOLERANCE TO CITY
city pup- no fear on the streets at all!
POTTY TRAINING
sort of- a few accidents the first day or two, but improving quickly!
COMFORT LEVEL W STRANGERS
Social butterfly
BEHAVIOR W CHILDREN
Maybe ok for 12 and up- shes a jumper, best for older kids
SOCIAL BEHAVIOR W OTHER DOGS
Mostly- gets excited easily, so could use some work on knowing her own size with smaller dogs
RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR W OTHER ANIMALS
Okay for a home with cats based on age and breed mix
MOUTHY BEHAVIOR
working on it- doesn't go for you, but will occasionally try for a table or chair leg just for fun. will pretty much put anything in her mouth
SEPARATION ANXIETY
adjusting- she isn't a consistent howler, but will do it a little at first and then very rarely throughout her time alone, like she hears a noise or all of a sudden realizes shes supposed to be upset that she's alone and will let a howl loose . she's already getting better at settling when I leave her home alone and think she will be a pro in no time!
LEASH MANNERS
WTF is a leash- combo of zero leash training and a beagle/hound nose. there's a LOT of smells and she needs to sniff them all
CUDDLE BUG LEVEL
medium- sleeps in my bed at night, but will nap all over the place during the day
JUMPING ON PEOPLE TO SAY HI
Needs training
CRATE TRAINING
Not at all - doesn't need a crate
Medical status:
Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. (For dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.)
How did this dog end up with Social Tees?
Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses.
This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
