My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Guava !!
This adorable little lady is the absolute sweetest thing. She has become so social and has left all the fear behind. She is an all around wonderful and easy dog.
She is one of the 13 dogs we took in from a horrible hoarding situation. She survived being in a feces covered home during freezing temps with no heat, no water and no electricity for a very long time. Despite that she arrived at her foster home and within 24 hours had fully embraced her new life. She is not looking back!
Guava is an approx. 5 old female. She looks like a chihuahua mix but doesn’t act like a typical chi. She weighs 10.5 Pounds. She will be spayed, have a dental, be up to date on vaccines and microchipped as part of her adoption. She is heartworm negative and on monthly preventions.
This girl will melt your heart. Her pics do not do her justice in how adorable she is. She loves to be around you. Her favorite thing is to be picked up and then she melts into your neck for a hug and snuggles. She is always happy to see you and her tail gets to wagging the second you return home. She has also been very well behaved.
Guava is fun but very mellow and laid back. She loves to lounge around and is perfectly fine to hang out in her crate while you are gone for a full day of work. She is not nippy at all and has done well meeting new people. Even when she was terrified when she arrived she never tried to bite or be aggressive about anything. She was very good about her bath and her vet visits. A really sweet natured little lady.
She has done really well with other dogs of all sizes and ages. She has been around giant and small dogs and does well. Despite the scars on her face and living in a place where she had to fight off other dogs to eat she seems to realize that is no longer her life and has no issues with other dogs. She is not fostered with cats so we do not know how she will do but we suspect she would do fine. She is friendly and loving with kids. As with any dog she would need any children in the house to be respectful and not treat her like a toy.
Guava has been excellent about her crate training. She does not potty in her crate and has been quiet, calm and relaxed when crated. When left out in the kitchen she will end up back in her crate to rest. She has done very well on car rides and does not get sick. She is very new to leash training but is taking to it very well. She gets a little scared when she feels the tension on it but is starting to overcome that. She has really started to catch on to it the last few days.
She is not fully potty trained. She came from a place where they were trapped inside and had no options for going anywhere else. She has taken to puppy pads very well and uses them about 90% of the time. She is also starting to learn about going outside to potty. She is figuring things out very quickly and has not had a poop inside in over a week, she will still pee on the pads indoors at times.
Surprisingly Guava is not having any issues sharing food, treats, or toys with people or other animals. Given her previous situation we expected her to not share but she does. We do give her space to eat alone so she doesn’t feel rushed but the few times another dog has come near her bowl she was not defensive at all. She has been good when getting treats near other dogs. She does not play with toys yet but she loves a good chew bone.
So far she has been a fairly quiet little dog. The only time she barks is when she comes in from outside with the other dogs and gets excited. After that she has not been vocal.
Guava has a low to medium energy level so far. She walks around exploring some but otherwise she is pretty much looking for a place to relax. She loves a crate full of blankets to snuggle in or on top of you on the couch. She may get a little more energetic once she fully decompresses but we think she will be a low key dog overall.
We are so impressed with little Guava. She has really jumped on the opportunity to start a new life. She is learning fast and has the sweetest personality. A really wonderful dog that would fit into a lot of different types of homes.
Vet and home checks required.
Located in Hampton VA.
(She will need to be adopted within a 1 hour drive radius)
