Freya Way back in February 2016, I was brought to the HSHC as a 2-month-old stray kitten. I had a visit with a man, and the records show that I was comfortable, curious, and a lap cat during my showing. That man adopted me that very day, and we lived together all my happy life, full of love. I was a very well-behaved girl. I had only one incident of escaping because my owner fell out of the door and hurt himself. I stuck around home, hiding under the skirting of the trailer until I could come back inside. I was brought back to the HSHC on February 12, 2026, because my owner passed away. That was the saddest time of my life. I am now 12-years old. My medical exam showed that I had live fleas, and it was obvious that I was mourning for my gentleman. I was moved to a foster home to help me adjust to being without him. My foster mom (FM) let the interviewer lady (IL) know that I am making steady progress. I asked if her report could go in my profile, and here it is. I moved in with FM on 2-21, and on 2-24 I was allowed to explore the whole house. My litter box skills are a 10 out of 10. I love chicken-flavored canned food, but I’ll eat dry food without complaint. I am staying hydrated as well. My personality has been “cautious but curious.” Even though I was hiding under the bed in my foster room, when FM lay on the floor and extended her hand I didn’t mind. On the second day she did this, I swiftly butted my head into her hand, purring and requesting pets. I had been so lonely and sad, and this was an opportunity for love I couldn’t refuse. After ten minutes, I came out from under the bed for pets. FM was delighted! Don’t get me wrong. If someone else comes into my room, I’m back under the bed. FM thought I wouldn’t enjoy having the door to my room open, but my curiosity got the best of me, and I left to explore other rooms. Granted, I did this incrementally, one room at a time, then back to my room for reconnaissance, and out to check out another. She has discovered I am an extremely affectionate lady. However, with the other cats in the home, we have met and called a truce. We are following the cat rule #1, “I acknowledge this is your space, but you`d better find some space for me too”—a little hissing but no fighting. I have not met any dogs, kids, or men yet. Sadly, when I arrived at my FH, I was unpleasantly fragrant. I tolerated a dry shampoo bath and smell much better. My FM will continue taking care of me until she’s confident I’m ready to return t

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
