My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This Moon is full...of love!

Meet Moon, a six-year-old, easy-going, and deeply affectionate fella looking for his forever home!

Moon’s love knows no limits. He shares it generously with his humans and wholeheartedly with other cats. In his foster home, he has become devoted to the resident cat, trailing him from room to room like a loyal little shadow. Whether they’re side by side at the window chattering at squirrels or curled together in a peaceful afternoon nap, Moon simply wants to be near those he loves.

He settled into his foster home with remarkable ease, embracing his two foster parents and feline companion almost immediately. A true social butterfly, Moon thrives on companionship. Because of his affectionate and cat-loving nature, Moon would flourish in a home with at least one other friendly feline.

When he’s not off on adventures with his resident cat, Moon is a fiend for pets. He truly cannot get enough! This exuberantly affectionate guy loves cuddles, brushing sessions to keep his fluffy fur looking its best, and any excuse to be close to his people.

If he feels the petting session has ended prematurely, Moon will gently guide your hand back with his paws, just to be sure you didn’t forget your assignment. He also has an endearing quirk: while being pet, Moon compulsively licks the air, as if he’s trying to help you out. While you read a book or watch a movie, Moon always seems to conveniently find himself exactly where your hand is, patiently awaiting some pets.

Moon is a medium-energy cat. While he’s not one for nonstop zoomies, he does enjoy occasional playtime, with a wand or balls. Mostly, he likes to stretch his legs with a bit of romping alongside his foster parents’ resident cat, especially at night before bed time.

Although Moon has not been exposed to children in his foster home, his friendly nature and high tolerance for touch and physical affection suggest he could do very well with gentle, respectful kids.

Moon is FIV+, but he doesn’t let that slow him down one bit, and it doesn’t mean he can’t live a long, normal, and healthy life! Cats with FIV commonly have average lifespans. Because FIV is spread only through deep bite wounds, FIV positive cats are able to live with FIV negative cats in stable social environments. You can read more about FIV here:

Moon is an otherwise a healthy guy, though he has had a few teeth removed, including both his top canines. This hasn’t affected his daily life at all. If anything, it’s made him cuter, because now his little tongue will sometimes slip out while deep in slumber. He also has a refined palate—he prefers wet food but will happily eat dry food if it’s softened with a bit of water first.

Everything looks better under the light of a shining Moon…this charmingly celestial fellow is excited to meet you!

Additional adoption info

Pet Haven is a foster-based rescue. Our animals live with foster families until they are placed in permanent homes and their foster families get to know the dogs and cats learning important information about the animals. For example, the foster family will know if the dog or cat is good with other animals or children, and will have a good idea of what kind of training, attention, and special needs the pet may require. This makes our foster families great resources for potential adopters!

More about this rescue

Our Mission
Pet Haven improves the lives of pets and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs and cats; reducing pet overpopulation by supporting spay and neuter efforts, and providing resources to people that help strengthen the human-animal bond.

Our Vision
A Minnesota where all pets live in safe, loving homes.

Our Values
Excellence in service and care; community; integrity; innovation; perseverance; compassion; a rewarding place to volunteer

How We Help
Spay/Neuter Initiative Program: Providing support to end pet overpopulation in Minnesota
Owner Surrender: Providing a safe haven for pet owners
Foster: Committed to finding forever homes for cats and dogs
Phoenix Fund for Special Needs: Providing veterinary care for animals in need of healing
What We Do
We help dogs and cats find homes with loving families through foster-based care. Every dog and cat lives with a foster family until they find their forever families. We provide all of their basic needs including proper food, veterinary care, behavior training, and supplies.

Through in-home fostering, we learn about each animal’s temperament, personality, likes/dislikes, and any medical needs. With this first-hand information, we can then find the right family for each dog and cat.

Our volunteers also educate the public on responsible companion animal care and represent respect for animals at all times. Whether we’re working with prospective new families, meeting people at public events, or socializing with friends and family, we encourage others to view and treat their pets as members of the family. We are their guardians, and they depend on us for companionship and care.

We spay/neuter prior to adoption.
We microchip all our Pet Haven Pets and remain as a secondary contact.
We make sure all pets are up to date on required vaccinations
We test for Heartworm and Lymes in all our dogs and are transparent in the results and treament
We test for FeLV/FIV and are transparent in the results. We believe that cats who test positive still deserve a chance at a quality home.
We do not euthanize animals unless they have untreatable health or behavioral conditions that deny them an acceptable quality of life or makes them a serious threat to people, other animals, or themselves.
How We Operate
We rely on adoption fees, tax-deductible donations, grants, and special events to keep our rescue operating. Our staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers have provided the passion and commitment to keep Pet Haven a safe haven for animals for almost 70 years.

We are committed to preventing pet homelessness through the SNIP Grant. Since 2005, we have granted more than $240,000 to organizations in Minnesota to support spay/neuter initiatives.
