Meet Sweet Ruth . Ruth is a 2-year-old, 60-lb Boxer/Black Mouth Cur mix with a gentle heart and an incredibly smart mind. Before rescue, she survived on her own for at least 6 months in an industrial area, skillfully avoiding capture while kind mechanics made sure she had food. That survival intelligence still shines through today.
One of our foster moms started tracking her story, and after months and a dramatic rescue at the end of December, Ruth moved into this foster mom's care and has proven to be a polite, fully house-trained houseguest. Even when scared, she has never shown aggression — only quiet caution. She’s shy, observant, and deeply gentle.
Ruth reads the room beautifully. When unsure, she gives herself space. She’s still nervous about leashes and handling, but she now allows gentle muzzle scratches and is slowly learning that human touch can feel safe. Watching her begin to enjoy ear scratches and soft affection has been amazing.
She’s wonderful with other dogs — playful when invited, calm when not — and happily coexists with dogs both big and small. At home, she’s a quiet shadow, content to lounge nearby while her foster mom works and zooms.
Because of her past, Ruth is a high flight-risk dog early on. She needs a patient, committed adopter with a secure fenced yard, experience with fearful dogs, and safety tools like GPS collars and double leashes. Local adoption preferred, but the perfect Northeastern candidate might be worth the trip.
Ruth is a sweet, food-motivated, and incredibly smart. With patience and time, she has all the makings of a once-in-a-lifetime companion.
Critter Cavalry Rescue is a Middle TN-based 501(c)(3) saving high-risk homeless animals with weekly Northeast transports.

We are a group of dedicated rescue people who want to save as many dogs and cats from the local shelters before they are euthanized. On the average....there are only 1 out of 10 animals that get adopted from a shelter. We are dedicated to helping increase pet adoptions by offering a shelter animal a foster home to go to while awaiting an adoptive family to find them. Won't you please adopt a shelter animal? Or won't you please help us foster a shelter animal while we are looking for their perfect home? What a gift you can give a dog or cat by giving them a place to feel safe and secure....a forever home or a foster home. Won't you help us at Critter Cavalry give them a chance to have a life?
