We found Birdie through a local family whose dogs had an accidental litter of 10 puppies needing homes. After five dog-free years, we felt ready to welcome a new pet into our family. We brought Birdie home at 8 weeks old, and our son instantly fell in love with her.
About five months later, we learned she had detached retinas in both eyes. We were devastated, but she adjusted well inside our home and learned her surroundings quickly. As her vision declined, she developed separation anxiety and became very uncomfortable leaving her familiar environment. Car rides and travel became extremely stressful for her.
Recently, she developed glaucoma in one eye, and a veterinary ophthalmologist recommended removal of the left eye. With the financial strain of treatment, her increased anxiety, and the demands of full-time work and parenting, we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to find her a new home where she can feel safe and supported.
