My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hazel is a stunning 2-year-old spayed female Australian Shepherd mix with the most mesmerizing eyes — one blue and one brown! This Texas girl made her way north after being found as a stray momma dog, and now that her puppies are taken care of, it’s finally her turn to be spoiled and loved.

Hazel is incredibly affectionate and absolutely adores being pet. If you start giving her attention, she’ll happily lean right in and soak up every second. She’s also quite the talker! Like many Aussies, she isn’t shy about sharing her thoughts and will chat with you throughout the day.

She already knows some of her basic commands like sit and no, and she’s eager to continue learning. Being a smart, active breed, Hazel will thrive with structure, consistency, and mental stimulation. She does need some work on leash walking, but with patience and training, she’ll catch on quickly.

Hazel can be selective with other animals, so meet-and-greets are important to make sure it’s the right match. With the proper introductions and guidance, she has so much potential to blossom in the right home.

After surviving life as a stray with her babies, Hazel is ready to live her very best life — filled with love, stability, belly rubs, and a family to call her own. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, and beautifully unique companion, Hazel may just be your girl.

More about this shelter

Why adopt from LRHS? Adopting from a shelter gives owners the opportunity to meet and bond with their future pet prior to making the commitment to adopt. If you have an existing dog, our professional dog trainers and kennel techs will ensure all dogs meet and get along before sending a new dog into your home. If you run into any unforeseen behavioral or medical issues, educated LRHS staff are here to help field your questions and concerns.

LRHS ensures all dogs placed for adoption are to date on Rabies, Distemper and Bordatella vaccinations and are spayed/neutered, microchipped and administered flea/tick and heartworm treatments monthly. If a dog has a medical condition or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

LRHS ensures all cats placed for adoption are to date on Rabies and Distemper vaccinations, are spayed/neutered, microchipped, test negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV, and receive their monthly flea treatments. If a cat has a medical or behavioral issue, LRHS will make certain you are aware of the issue(s) before you adopt.

Upon adoption, owners receive a certificate for a free veterinary exam by Winter Harbor or Kindness Animal Hospital and a free starter bag of food!
