My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

As the days grow colder, could anything be better than a warm, cozy cat in your lap? Yes—two bonded brothers! Ernesto and his brother Rodrigo are a pair of senior gentleman who are searching for a quiet home to live out their golden years. Ernesto might be a shy boy, but he would love to sit in your lap if Rodrigo doesn’t beat him to it. Ernesto is also part of our Help Me Heal foster-to-adopt program, for he’s scheduled for a dental procedure and could use a stress-free and loving home while healing.

By choosing to foster and then adopt you’re helping Ernesto transition into a forever family more quickly and with less anxiety. During the Help Me Heal foster period, PAWS even covers all medical care and medicine until your pet is medically cleared for adoption. Could you be Ernesto and Rodrigo’s new family? If you have a quiet home, a little patience, and seating to fit a cat on either side of you, you might be the perfect fit for this bonded pair of sweet senior tabbies.

Adoption Requirements

To adopt a pet from PAWS Chicago, you must:
1. Be at least 21 years of age
2. Have a U.S. government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or state ID
3. Verify that you are allowed to have a pet of the breed and size where you currently live
4. Be able to spend the time and resources necessary to provide the training, medical treatment and proper care for your pet
5. Bring along all family members (including children) to meet your new cat or dog. Be sure to bring any resident dogs if you are adopting a dog.
6. Be able to take the pet home on the day of adoption
7. Be available to spend up to an hour with an Adoption Counselor to discuss the responsibility of owning a pet and making a lifetime commitment
8. Spay or neuter any resident pets before you adopt. This is the most important thing you can do to help stop pet overpopulation, and also gives your pet many health and behavioral benefits!*

More about this shelter

PAWS Chicago is the city's largest No Kill humane organization, focused on solutions to end the killing of homeless pets. Since our founding in 1997, homeless dogs and cats killed annually in the City of Chicago has dropped more than 50 percent. PAWS Chicago is working to build a No Kill Chicago -- a city where pets are no longer destroyed just because they are homeless.
