My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Maisie was brought in by a community member on February 16, 2026.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Maisie! Maisie is a sweet and resilient feline ready to find her new home after overcoming a challenging start. She arrived at the shelter with a significant injury that required a Femoral Head Ostectomy, commonly known as an FHO surgery. This surgical procedure involves removing the head of the femur to eliminate painful bone-on-bone contact in the hip joint, eventually allowing the body to create a "false joint" out of muscle and scar tissue. While the procedure sounds intense, it is a common way to restore pain-free mobility for cats with severe hip trauma. Now that the hardest part of her journey is behind her, Maisie is looking for a dedicated adopter who is ready to spoil her as she completes her recovery. She is a gentle soul who thrives on affection and will need a quiet environment where she can continue to regain her strength at her own pace. Potential adopters should be prepared to provide a comfortable space for her to lounge and heal. If you are ready to welcome this brave girl into your life, please remember to bring a sturdy cat carrier to ensure she has a safe and secure ride to her new home.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
