My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Moose (JC Magical Mousse) is a young OTTB gelding with a big heart and an even bigger personality. This handsome bay greets you at the gate like he’s been waiting all day just for you. He’s a true gentleman to lead and groom, and he brings a goofy, lovable presence to the ranch that makes him a joy to have around.

Moose was previously a lesson horse at a hunter jumper barn and then purchased as a show horse for a teenager. The family that purchased him found out he was not sound when ridden and was not able to find the source of his discomfort. He was reported to be explosive under saddle by his previous owner. He also showed signs of lameness during his evaluation stages with our trainer. Moose was seen by a vet and was first diagnosed with kissing spine. Then, after an ultrasound was taken of his fetlocks, a fragment was found floating in one of his median sesamoidean ligaments, causing the pain when being ridden. Our vet was confident that Moose could live comfortably with both diagnoses as a pasture pet. If an adopter was considering bringing Moose back into riding, they would need to be an experienced, advanced horse person willing to work closely with a veterinarian to ensure his comfort in his new career. His long-term soundness and success would depend on careful management and professional guidance. We do feel that Moose’s happiest and most straightforward placement is as a pasture pet or companion horse. He will require an intermediate handler for groundwork and daily care.

Moose thrives on attention and connection. He currently lives happily with other geldings in a pasture and does well in a herd setting. As a pasture companion, he’s content, personable, and a wonderful horse to visit with. We think he enjoys his time spent with his people as much as he does his equine buddies. He`d love to accompany you while you do barn chores or even just on a walk around the pasture! He stands for our farrier and vets and enjoys any extra attention he can get from staff during those visits, whether that be a treat or simply physical touch.

This big, gentle guy is looking for a home that appreciates him for who he is: a sweet, goofy gelding who just wants to be someone’s buddy. If you’re searching for a personable companion horse with lots of love to give, Moose just may be your match!

*Moose does crib, which can be managed by a cribbing collar and more time spent outside rather than in a stall.*
