Their adoption process

Our adoption process is detailed online.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue earned a GOLD Seal of Transparency on GuideStar!

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Find our application online at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt
  2. Approve Application
    1. Interview, personal & vet reference checks and a virtual home visit are part of our application approval process.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. We ask all family members (with 2- or 4-legs) to meet the new pet at his or her foster home or a mutually agreeable location.
  4. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. If all goes well, adoption can be finalized when all parties are ready to bring a new pet home!

We are NOT a shelter and do not have one location to visit dogs. Individual meetings with our dogs in their foster homes will be set up after applications are processed and approved. This ensures qualified homes and respects the time of our foster families.

More about this rescue

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with foster homes in the Twin Cities, Duluth and other locations in the Midwest. We are dedicated to the rehoming of Border Collies, Border Collie mixes and other herding breeds in need of help in Minnesota, the Dakotas and neighboring states. We provide temporary housing in approved foster homes, proper medical care, training, rehabilitation and education of prospective homes.

There are no paid positions in our rescue: we are all volunteers who support the HOABCR mission because we love the breed and want to help dogs in need. We are always looking to welcome like-minded fosters and other volunteers to partner with us in helping dogs!
