My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Cookie was brought in by her previous owner on February 13, 2026.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Cookie is a spirited and independent feline who is looking for a home where she can be the center of attention. Cookie has some handling sensitivity and does not like to be picked up or have her feet touched; when she feels overwhelmed, she may scratch or attempt to flee. Because she was a bully to other cats in her previous home, Cookie requires a household where she is the only pet. She will also need a home without children under 10 years old. Adopters should provide her with the option to interact or move away as she chooses, ensuring she feels safe and in control of her environment. To keep Cookie happy and engaged, her new family should provide plenty of enrichment and vertical space, such as cat trees, furniture, or even a catio, as she loves to climb and observe from up high. While she may not want to be held, she absolutely loves to be brushed and will appreciate the bonding time that grooming provides. When it comes to play, it is important to utilize wand toys or toss toys rather than using hands or feet, as she may mistake them for prey and play too roughly. Cookie is a wonderful cat for an experienced owner who understands feline body language and is ready to provide her with a structured, loving home. Please remember to bring a hard-sided cat carrier to ensure she has a safe and secure ride to her new home.

Overstimulated Cat:Cookie requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
