My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Leo! When Leo first arrived, he was struggling to adapt to the stressful shelter environment. His previous home described him as a friendly, playful cat in a home setting. He has been slow to adjust but with one-on-one time with our experienced staff, he's started to show us what a sweet boy he is! It's not uncommon for animals to act very differently in the shelter compared to a home setting. Knowing that he is sensitive to change, his new family should be prepared to give him space and be patient with him as he settles in.

Leo's favorite treat is Churu, but he will settle for dry treats if that's all that's available. He is known to strongly dislike brushing, so that will have to be done slowly over time since he does have a long, luscious coat to maintain. He did have several mats in his coat that required shaving for his comfort. With these taken care of, he should be more open to the introduction of daily brushing into his routine.

His favorite toys are any small, soft, circular things or anything that resembles a string. His preferred place to sleep is on the bed with his people or basking in the sun. One of his favorite toys in the shelter is a feather cat teaser that spins! He is a big cat, but he leap and pounce like a kitten!

Leo has not met any other cats, dogs, or children. Because of this, we are not sure how he would react to others in the house. Due to his level of stress at TCHS, it's likely he would thrive best in a quieter home environment with few or no other pets and no young children who may not understand his body language. Slow and proper introductions to resident pets and children are always recommended. Ask a TCHS staff member for tips!

*Adoption holds may be placed on available animals in person or by calling (320) 252-0896. An adoption hold reserves available animals for one day after the animal is ready to be adopted. More than one adoption hold may be placed on an available animal and will be honored in the order they were received. Adoption holds are $25 plus tax, are non-refundable, non-transferable and not applied toward the adoption fee.

**Minnesota sales tax and an administrative fee ($20 for cats/dogs and $10 for small animals) will be applied to all adoptions. Donations and adoption fees help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries, microchipping, vaccinating, deworming, any medical procedures, and general care of all shelter animals. Additional adoption info

Animals are adopted quickly from Tri-County Humane Society, so we advise you to place an adoption hold if you are interested in a specific animal.

Adoption holds are $25 plus tax. To place an adoption hold on a pet, call us at (320) 252-0896 and have your Visa, Discover, American Express, or Mastercard ready; holds also can be placed in person at the shelter. NOTE: Tri-County Humane Society CANNOT reserve an animal without an adoption hold. (Holds cannot be placed through email or social media messaging.)

HOW ADOPTION HOLDS WORK: The $25 plus tax “hold” reserves the TCHS animal of your choice for one day. We do take multiple holds, but it’s always first come, first served. People do change their minds about adoption, and that’s OK - if you’ve fallen in love, you may want to place an additional hold!

THE DETAILS: All holds are nonrefundable and nontransferable. It is a fee for a service (to hold the animal for you); the adoption fee plus tax will still need to be paid in full. If the animal is not adopted by the person with the hold, the pet is available again.

WHAT THE “HOLD” MONEY GOES TO: It helps support our nonprofit animal shelter and the 5,000-plus animals we care for every year!
