My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*****

Hi there! I'm Obsidian, a charming little kitten with a sleek black coat and a personality that's shining bright. Out of my litter, I'm the more outgoing one – I love to explore and play, and I'm always a bit more inclined to come out in the open. Lately, I've been practicing my walking, and you’ll see my tail up high as I strut around in a friendly posture. I might be playful, but I have to admit, I’m still getting used to being petted. I know I squirm a bit when you hold me, but I promise it’s just me being a little unsure. I think with a bit more handling and some patience, I could become a really wonderful companion. I would recommend that my new family keep me in a space where I can’t find too many hiding spots – somewhere I can explore without feeling overwhelmed. If you have a gentle, human-friendly cat to join me, that might help boost my confidence even further! Sometimes, I might let out a faint little hiss if I’m feeling shy, but I’ve never tried to scratch or bite. I’m ready to find my forever home where I can grow, play, and learn to trust. If you’re looking for a playful friend, I’d love to meet you!

I am available for adoption but still being cared for in a foster home.  For more information about me or to schedule a meeting, please email cats@frastx.org.

More about this rescue

Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. FRAs was founded in 2004 by 4 volunteers who wanted to support the Rowlett Animal Shelter. Our organization has grown to over 300 volunteers, and with this growth, we now support four municipal shelters and operate our own cat rescue program.

Our mission is to provide resources, programs and education to promote adoption and care of homeless pets in our community. FRAs’ vision is a world where every companion animal has a safe and loving forever home. We are a 100% all volunteer run organization, and our ability to help homeless animals depends on donations from the community and grant funding.

Our organizational programs include operating the volunteer program for both shelters, providing funding for heartworm treatments and emergency medical care, accepting cats from the shelter and citizens into our foster-based cat rescue, supporting TNR/SNR efforts for community cats and most recently funding dog transport initiatives. Our volunteers spend thousands of hours socializing and marketing the animals for adoption, which increases the number of animals with a positive outcome. FRAs has helped countless pets avoid euthanasia, find their forever homes and live longer, healthier lives.
