Sometimes, all you need is a slightly deranged kitten to break up the winter blues and
teach you how to be a kitten-at-heart. Benji came to rescue developmentally stalled.
You see, since birth he lived in survival mode on the streets, hungry and lonely and
didn’t get a chance to be a kitten. His foster mom tried to play with the wand toy with
him and get him to come out from hiding to no avail. Enter FuBU, a 3-lb black kitten
fearless and full of exuberant kitten energy. Play! Chase! Tackle! Snacks! Pets! Explore!
FuBU was ready to do it all.
On first introduction, FuBU ran up to Benji’s watermelon house. Benji hissed at him, “go
away!” FuBU was undeterred and determined to win him over. He climbed on top of the
watermelon house and collapsed it, quite literally breaking down the protective walls
Benji had put up. Benji had no choice but to accept him and from then on, they’ve been
inseparable and Benji got a 2nd chance to learn how to be a kitten!
Benji continues to blossom with FuBU’s love and has learned to trust humans. Best of
all, he’s learned how to play! The boys wrestle and chase each other around the house.
They do amazing acrobatics with the cat wand. They both want to be close to their
human and the dog. Benji will follow his human from room to room. He will slow blink
you as you sit on the toilet. He will slow blink you from the doorway when you’re in
bed. He will get up next to you on the couch and curl up and slow blink you as you read
a book. He is a complete loverboy.
Petting is still a new concept to Benji that is being slowing introduced following the
Socialization Saves Lives program. Right now, he likes to play a gentle version of Pat-a-
Cake. If you stick out your hand, Benji will put his paw (with no nail) on your hand and
look at you with his big round green eyes, “is this how we play?” He is truly the gentlest
of souls, always checking on the other rescue who is still in a kennel. He will sleep on
top of her cage, sing to her, and rub up against her kennel. He will also check on FuBU
and do brotherly tasks such as clean him when he’s got Churu on his head.
Benji will soon be the ultimate companion cat. The cat that wants to always be with his
humans and is giving all the signs he will be an absolute cuddle bug soon! He has
beautiful markings; a white chest and matching socks with green eyes and is the most
handsome of boys. He purrs when you feed him and his favorite activity is playing
chase “da Bird” cat wand or “it’s raining treats!” which is when his foster mom throws up
a handful of treats for him to pounce on.
FuBU, on the other hand, is a little wild man. He is brazen and bold. Nothing scares him.
Nothing deters him. He loves kids and dogs. He loves to snuggle and cuddle and chase, pounce, and play. His name comes from when his foster mama was asked if she wanted a “Friendly But Ugly” kitten. Of course she said yes! And he’s grown into his ears and looks while his personality remains big! Turns out, a slightly deranged kitten is exactly what both Benji and his foster mom needed to remind themselves that life is too short to not play and have fun!
We are looking for a home for these boys to keep them together. They’ve proven they’ll do well in pretty much any situation as long as they have each other and are given time to adjust. They both love other kitties and are friendly with nice dogs and kids.
Benji is around 10 months old and FuBU is about 3 1/2 months old. They are in Anchorage. Call 907 980-8898

Clear Creek Cat Rescue is a group of individuals in Alaska dedicated to rescuing cats in need, giving them care, rehabilitation if needed, and finding happy homes for them. We each give what we can to help these cats get through this most unfortunate time in their lives when they have been taken to the pound or are otherwise lost and homeless. Some of us share our homes with these cats while they are waiting for their forever family, some transport them from place to place, some host adoption fairs, take pictures, post ads. Some offer financial help. We each do what we can to help. And through this dedicated group of people, more than a thousand cats have been saved and found loving homes.
In 2020, we rescued and rehomed approximately 650 cats.
