Hi there, I'm Fruit Loops! I'm a friendly, curious hamster who loves exploring my habitat and getting in plenty of laps on my wheel. I enjoy gentle pets and calm attention, but quick movements and sudden wake-ups can startle me, so slow, patient handling helps me feel safe and confident in your hands. Like most hamsters, I'm a bit of a lone ranger and prefer my own space, so I'll need to live solo without any cage mates. I'll be a happy little camper as long as my enclosure is spot-cleaned daily, I'm fed a quality seed mix or pellets, and I get a tasty treat now and then. I need ample room to run and play, with at least 288 square inches of continuous floor space-though bigger is always better! Some habitats with lots of tube attachments may look fun, but they can be too snug for larger hamsters and don't always allow for the best airflow. Since I'm nocturnal, I'm most active at night and prefer to play and snack after the sun goes down, spending much of the daytime resting (though I might adjust a bit to your routine). Pet adoption is a big commitment. We encourage you to spend considerable time thinking about and researching the type of pet most suitable to your family. Most breeds have their own characteristic traits and specific needs which need to be considered. Remember that some animals have lifespans of 20 years or more.
Prospective adopters will meet the following requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- You must have two pieces of identification, with at least one showing your current address and a picture.
- ALL FAMILY MEMBERS, sometimes including family pets, must be present during the adoption process.
- If you already have a dog and are considering adopting another one, you MUST be prepared to bring your current family dog to the interview. This will help you to determine if all family members and existing pets will get along with the new pet.
- If you live in rental accommodations, please confirm that your landlord allows the type of pet you are considering, and that you have paid your pet deposit before you adopt. There are NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES if the building owner does not accept the animal. In addition, you will have to pay all regular surrender fees if you need to return the animal to the Edmonton Humane Society.
