My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Gumdrop, and my story didn’t start out very sweet.

My humans moved out of their apartment and left me behind. I was outside, pregnant, and alone. Thankfully, I didn’t have to bring my babies into the world outside. The kind neighbors next door scooped me up, brought me inside, and kept me safe.

I shared that home with another mama cat who was also expecting. We delivered our babies at the same time, side by side. I took care of my little ones for a while… and then I decided I was finished. Motherhood? Not quite my lifelong calling. So I let my friend Lollipop step in and take over baby duty. She didn’t mind — and I certainly didn’t argue.

After that, I moved into a foster home with a bunch of other cats. Let’s just say… that wasn’t really my vibe. I even figured out how to escape the room I was staying in because I didn’t want to hang out with them — and I definitely didn’t want to keep being a mom. My foster mom would wake up in the morning and find me curled up at the end of her bed like I had always belonged there. That’s more my speed — one human, one cozy bed, one peaceful routine.

Now I’m hanging out at The Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center, waiting for my forever home. I can be a little spicy here at the shelter because all these other cats. They’re a lot. I prefer my own space and my own person.

But in the right home — a calm home, maybe as your one-and-only — I am going to be an incredibly loyal, loving companion. I just need someone to see past the spice and choose me.

More about this shelter

We were founded in 1998. Our mission is to rescue abandoned and abused cats from the streets. We socialize them and provide any needed medical care including vaccinations, spaying or neutering, treating for internal and external parasites, dental care, and if needed eye surgeries, bone surgeries, etc. After they are treated they are placed in permanent loving homes. We do not euthanize any cat even if it is deemed unadoptable. They live out their lives with us. We have at any given time 175 to 300 cats and kittens. All are spayed or neutered before placing in homes (kittens receive pediatric spaying or neutering at 2 lbs. or more). We are supported by adoption fees and donations.
