My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene…I got my name from a Dolly Parton song! I’m a 2-year-old grey tabby girl who was discovered on a rural property in Lyle in May 2025 after the new owners arrived. Two months later, I appeared with two kittens. One passed away, but my girl, Kitten, survived. I gave birth to a second litter of kittens in October 2025. These kittens came to Paws and Claws in February 2026 and were soon adopted. While living outside, I got along sleeping and eating with all the other outdoor stray cats, although I did show some signs of aggression when I needed to protect my babies. Once I was taken inside by my foster mom, I did not want to go outdoors. I am very food-motivated and rub against people, jump on their lap, or sit by their feet if I want a treat. I do okay with petting and being held, but those aren’t my favorite things – yet. I enjoy catnip-filled toys like bananas and mice. I like rolling toys, toy kickers, chew toys, and wand toys that jiggle or chirp too. I relish lounging on a straw mat, being up high on a cat tree, looking outside a window, and sleeping on a comfy couch or chair. I’ll make a great companion for someone seeking company and affection. I’d love to be adopted with my daughter “Kitten”. Anyone interested in adopting me should talk to an adoption counselor about my special needs. We both will be staying in our foster home for now, so please contact the shelter to make arrangements to meet me.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Paws and Claws Humane Society (PCHS) is a non-profit, mostly volunteer organization that rescues and shelters homeless cats and dogs until they can be adopted into their “forever” homes. We want our clients to understand that adopting and animal is a lifetime responsibility and commitment to that animal.

All prospective adopters must show (at the time of adoption) a valid drivers license or other acceptable identification to verify their name, address, and age. Adopters must be 18 yrs of age. Children under the age of 12 years old need to be present at time of viewing shelter cats or dogs.

After submitting an application, there is generally a processing period of 1-3 days in order to complete all pre-adoption checks and paperwork before an adopter may take possession of the animal.

More about this rescue

Paws and Claws Humane Society is committed to partnering with the community to shelter, protect, and seek adoptive homes for abandoned or lost companion animals.

We have served Southern Minnesota for over 30 years and we are the largest shelter in the 8 surrounding counties that does not limit the length of stay for the animals in its care.

Paws & Claws is funded completely on donations and fundraising events and receives no federal, state, county or city funds. We currently have nearly 900 dues paying members.

Paws & Claws has a community fund to help pay for the spaying and neutering of companion animals for those who cannot afford it.

We give over 40 tours and presentations annually, educating the public [including over 400 children] about proper animal care and the importance of spaying and neutering companion animals to help control the pet population in Southern Minnesota.

We have over 110 families that participate in the Guardian Angel Program [sponsoring animals] each month.

Paws & Claws will take in an injured animal and get the emergency medical care that it requires.

Local veterinarians in and around Rochester help Paws & Claws by providing over 145 free spay or neuters each year.

In a typical year the shelter will facilitate adoptions and provide care for over 600 dogs and cats.
