My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ALL our cats and dogs are in the NY area but can be adopted out of state to the purrfect furever home.  In some cases, we can help transport.  Zani's al fresco Summer Adoptions  follow us on FB to find us this summer as we will try new locations to meet the needs of NYC and support the little stores:)

Meet Ginger ❤️ Female • 1.5 years old 28 pounds • Spayed Up to date on vaccines • 4DX negative Ginger is truly the definition of a perfect dog. She is incredibly affectionate, gentle, and sweet. She loves everyone she meets, including people, dogs, and even cats. And at just 30 pounds, she is the ideal size. A little girl We found Ginger at a coffee shop near a busy highway. We tried offering her food, but she wasn’t interested at all. All she wanted was human attention. She stayed close, quietly asking for affection instead of a meal. When we walked back to the car, Ginger followed us. Half joking, we said, “Come on in.” And she did. She jumped straight into the backseat as if she had been waiting for that invitation her whole life. Within minutes, she fell asleep. Not just a short nap, but the kind of deep, peaceful sleep that tells you everything. She slept through the ride… and then nearly the entire next day. It felt like she had finally allowed herself to rest after who knows how long. Like she had finally felt safe. Ginger is pure love. The kind of dog that fits into any home, any family, any life. She isn’t just a good dog. She is that dog

All dogs are located in NY/NJ area
All our puppies need puppy play dates/doggy facetime so we recommend homes with other pups or daily interactions to keep them tired out, happy and social.

Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, Rabies vaxed, and microchipped (not Lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it!)  All are in the NY/NJ area but we will adopt out of state to the purrfect home and in some cases, we can arrange transport.  Please go to our site  https://zanisfurryfriends.org  fill out an application
Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application early Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.

Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!

If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us info@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet.  It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Saturdays or Sundays, weather dependent  Follow us on FB, Zani's Furry Friends ZFF, for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered. Please fill out an application and email to: For Cats: cats@zanisfurryfriends.org For Dogs: dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org For Rabbits: nyc.acc.rabbits@gmail.com. Please visit our website zanisfurryfriends.org.

Go meet their pets

Most of our foster animals are in foster homes in or around New York City where they can be seen via appointment w/ the foster family.

We sometimes participate in events sponsored by the Mayor's Alliance of NYC of which we are proud to say we are a participating organization.

Sometimes, unfortunately, our animals are still in the NYC Animal Care and Control facilities for which we desperately seek foster care.

More about this rescue

Because of the pressing cage space dilemma, we take dogs and cats primarily from Animal Care & Control of NYC. If not for rescue and adoptions, more than the present 24,000 of the current 50,000 animals taken in yearly would not make it out alive. Our goal is to take as many animals as we can who make great family members/companions and give them a second chance. Temperament is our most important criteria. Ideally, all our animals are good w/ people of all ages and other animals (dogs/cats).
Our adoptees are either spayed or neutered, all UTD w/ shots/rabies vax, heartworm negative or feline combo negative, and microchipped. Most of our animals live in foster situations to help them reintegrate back into family life. We feel most animals prefer the company of other animals and hope our adopters consider giving pets to their pets. (We do apply the 2 kitty rule.)
Other times, we courtesy post for people who are obliged to surrender their animals but ask that they continue to foster their companions until appropriate new homes are found to limit the trauma.
