My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Birdy – Your Sweet Little Shadow

Hello everyone! My name is Birdy, and I’m a Tri-colored French Brittany/Munsterlander 2.6 yr 35-lb bundle of sweetness just waiting to find my forever family. If you’re looking for a loving companion who wants nothing more than to be close to her people, I might just be your girl.

I’m what they call a professional cuddle bug. I absolutely love being a lap dog, and if you sit down, don’t be surprised if I gently curl up beside you. Belly rubs are one of my favorite things in the whole world—if you stop too soon, I might give you a little nose nudge (or a tiny playful nibble) just to remind you I’m still waiting!

My tail is almost always wagging because I’m just a happy, affectionate girl who loves being around people.

Here are a few things my foster family says about me:

Sweet and affectionate – I love cuddles and attention
Eager to please and quick to learn
Crates nicely and settles well
Gets along with other dogs, especially respectful male dogs
Loves antlers and Nylabones for chewing
Learning leash walking and “stay/off” commands

I’m still working on a few things, like most pups. I do have a bit of a prey drive for birds and small critters (I am Birdy after all!).  I need a physical fence, I love to play with my foster sibling, and I can get grumpy if my 4-legged foster sibling wants to take my food.  All manageable.

I’m also pretty curious, so my family should be careful around doors because I can be a little sneaky when adventure calls.

I would do best with respectful kids and a loving family who enjoys having a sweet dog nearby—because I really love being close to my people.

I may not care much about chasing a ball, but if you’re looking for a gentle soul who loves cuddles, companionship, and chew toys, I promise to fill your home with love and wagging tails.

All I need now is a forever family to call my own. Could that be you?

Important Medical Update for Birdy:

Birdy is currently recovering beautifully from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and continues to improve every day. When she first came into rescue in October 2025, she had been very sick, but thanks to thorough veterinary care—including extensive testing and biopsies—we were able to rule out more serious conditions and determine the best path forward for her health.

Today, Birdy is doing very well and feeling better all the time. She is currently thriving on a special diet, Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dry food, which helps keep her tummy happy and healthy. With this diet and continued loving care, she has been making wonderful progress over the past month.

Because she is still finishing her recovery, Birdy may need a little more frequent potty breaks than some dogs, but she continues to improve as her system heals.

The adoption fee for KS/Birdy, who lives in Olathe, KS  is $350,  which helps to offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members.  If you are interested in making KS/Birdy part of your family, please complete the online application by visiting www.nbran.org .  Please let your state coordinator know so we can get the ball rolling.  Also, please email the state coordinator of KS/Birdy-Melinde Waddle @ macgammy@gmail.com  Once approved by your state coordinator, I will setup talking to the foster of Birdy.

Transportation can be arranged up  to 1400 miles with the adopter being responsible for at least the last 100 miles.
