My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Amari – A Petite Beauty with the Prettiest Eyes 💛
Hello there… I’m Amari, a stunning short-hair tabby with fur so incredibly soft I feel like a bunny rabbit, the cutest babyface, and the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. I’m a gentle girl who carries a lot of love in her heart — I just need a little time to let it show.
Once you earn my trust — and a good scratch under my chin — I absolutely melt. Once the pets start, I never want them to stop! And just wait until you hear my loud, happy purr. 😊

✦ MY STORY
I was rescued a bit older after being born outside to a feral mom. When I first arrived, I was scared and unsure of the world. But my wonderful foster moms saw my potential, and with patience and love I’ve blossomed beautifully. I still have a little way to go, but the progress I’ve made is truly remarkable — and now I’m ready to find my very own forever home.

🐾 Shy but never aggressive — just a gentle heart learning to feel safe 🐾

I have never shown a single moment of aggression. My shyness is simply me being cautious in a world that once felt uncertain. With the right family, that uncertainty melts away and is replaced by devotion, soft cuddles, and the kind of companionship that makes every day sweeter.

✦ MY PERSONALITY
I love to play with mice and ball toys — the ball tower toy is my absolute favorite! When I’m feeling comfortable, you’ll see my playful, curious side come alive. I’ve also discovered that cozy beds and regular meals are the greatest gifts in the world 😊
I do well with other cats, and a friendly feline companion could actually help me come out of my shell even faster. A buddy to show me the ropes makes everything feel a little less daunting!

✦ WHAT I NEED FROM YOU
Because I can be timid at first, I’ll need a calm, patient family who understands that trust is built slowly — and beautifully. Please don’t be discouraged if I hide at first or keep my distance. That’s just me making sure the world is safe. With gentle consistency, I will come to you.
I thrive when someone is home often, as your presence helps me build confidence. A quiet home without young children would suit me best. In return, I promise you will be rewarded with endless affection and devotion. 💕

✦ ABOUT ME AT A GLANCE
• Age: Approximately 6 months old
• Health: Spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, FIV/FeLV negative
• Temperament: Shy, gentle, non-aggressive — patient love required
• Diet: Fancy Feast Chicken Gravy Lovers (wet) & Purina One Chicken Kitten (dry)
• Other Cats: Does well with slow, proper introductions
• Best Home: Calm, quiet household; someone home often; no young children

Are you the patient person I’ve been waiting for?
Give me time, give me patience — and I promise I will give you my whole heart. 💛

More about this rescue

🐾 Our Mission at Billy the Kidden Rescue 🐾

Billy the Kidden Rescue is a VDACS-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2014 and supported by a network of over 60 active foster homes across Hampton Roads.

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce the feral cat population in our community by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens—transforming them into loving, adoptable pets and placing them in safe, forever homes.

💙 Our Heart is in TNR
We are proud advocates of TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return)—the humane, effective method of managing community cats. Through this program, feral cats are:

✔️ Trapped
✔️ Neutered or Spayed
✔️ Vaccinated
✔️ Ear-Tipped (as a universal sign they've been fixed)
✔️ Returned to live safely in their outdoor colonies without contributing to overpopulation.

We are actively working to promote legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads.

🐱 Feral Kitten Socialization
Our feral kitten socialization program is one of a kind—with a 90% success rate in helping feral-born kittens become affectionate, in-home pets. Through experienced fostering, patience, and love, these kittens learn to trust, play, and thrive indoors.

💪 Get Involved!
We’re always looking for passionate animal lovers to join our team. Help us make a difference by becoming a:
