Dog Name: Babar
Sex: Male
Age: 3 years old
Weight: about 60lbs
Medical Needs: Babar is still healing with some places on his skin.
He has no special medications but I do like to keep them clean with just soap on water.
Housebroken: Yes. He’s had no accidents in the house and will let you know when he needs to go out by going to the door and waiting.
Crate trained: Yes. He’s quite comfortable in his crate and will go straight in when he’s told “crate” and looks for a treat once he goes in and sits down.
Good in the car: Yes. He sits in the backseat and watches out the window or lays down. You may get a random kiss from the backseat here and there though.
Good on a leash: He still pulls some, though we’re still working on it. He’s used to going where he wants to go when he wants to, that he sometimes forgets you’re attached. I prefer to use a harness with him.
Energy level: Medium. Babar is all about cuddles and naps, but he still enjoys his toys. He likes to play tug and shake his stuffed animals. He’s learning fetch! He loves chasing the toy and bringing it back to show you, he’s still working on giving it back so you can throw it again.
Need a fenced in yard: I don’t think he needs a fenced in yard but he does really enjoy the freedom of wandering in it.
Dog Friendly: Babar needs long introductions to new dogs but with slow and proper introductions he should do fine. I would suggest feeding him and another dog separately. He needs space to eat, both human and dog, though I’m still working on him being used to people being nearby. He will freeze if he feels like you may take his food.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No
Cat Friendly? Not tested
Kid Friendly: Babar has been friendly with all the people he’s met.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Babar would probably do well with older children that would understand he needs space when he eats. He can also get mouthy when he gets excited. We’re working on him being gentle and he’s making great progress.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Babar is a foodie!!!! He loves any food he’s tried from dried sweet potatoes to carrots to doggie fish sticks, to whole herring, and even celery. He loves it all! He loves to snuggle and give kisses. He’ll happily fall asleep next to you during a movie night (maybe some salt free popcorn). Just have the remote close to you, Babar snores like a champion!
