My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

🏛️ Roman – Conqueror of the Backyard

Meet Roman, a 9-week-old brindle terrier mix puppy who has already declared himself ruler of the great outdoors—specifically any patch of grass he can find. While ancient Romans built empires, this little guy prefers to roll dramatically through the lawn like it’s the greatest invention in history.

Roman is full of classic puppy curiosity and joy. His brindle coat makes him look extra distinguished, but don’t be fooled—he’s still a goofy little explorer who believes grass is meant for rolling, playing, and celebrating life.

He’s in that perfect puppy stage where everything is exciting, every toy is amazing, and every person could be his next best friend. With love, patience, and a little training, Roman is going to grow into a wonderful companion.

Roman’s Ideal Home:
A family ready for puppy adventures, outdoor playtime, and plenty of laughs as this little emperor continues to discover the world.

If you’ve got a yard, a sense of humor, and room in your heart for a tiny grass-rolling champion, Roman is ready to march right into your life. 🐶🌿👑

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
