My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Diego was brought in by their previous owner on March 6, 2026.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Diego! Diego may start out as the quiet observer of the room, but give him a little time and you'll start to see the sweet, charming guy behind those watchful eyes. His previous owner described him as a friendly cat who enjoys attention once he's had some time to get comfortable-and we're already starting to see that side of him peek through. When Diego settles in, he's happy to enjoy pets and hang out near his people and he prefers to keep all four paws on the ground where he can stay in charge of the situation. In his new home, Diego will do best starting out with his own cozy room. Think of it as his home base while he checks everything out and gets comfortable at his own pace. Once he's feeling confident, he'll be ready to expand his territory and continue showing off more of his personality. Diego can find medical settings a bit stressful, so a vet who practices fear-free handling will help make those visits smoother for him. Diego is ready to head to his new home-just don't forget a secure carrier for the ride home.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
