My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome Arabian gelding came to Longmeadow at the end of 2025. He went through his routine quarantine and was evaluated by our trainers as soon as his quarantine ended.

Upon evaluation, our trainers found Gambit to be a bit wiggly during grooming and tacking, but he improved as he became more familiar and comfortable in his environment. He needed etiquette reminders from the trainers while standing tied but did better when he had an equine buddy nearby. Although his handler will need to provide gentle but firm corrections when handling Gambit in a new environment, it should be said that this gelding is incredibly endearing, and when he’s mentally present, his intelligence really shines. He has an active, curious mind, which is a real strength of his when he is focused on a task.

Gambit has been trained under saddle and has been ridden in our indoor arena at the walk (with a couple surprise trots thrown in!) on a lunge line. With thoughtful, consistent work, we think his Arabian energy can be channeled into something really productive. The biggest focus in his training at the moment is helping him stay connected and engaged rather than taking in every detail of his surroundings, both on the ground and under saddle. When Gambit locks in and tunes into his person, he shows that he is very capable and willing, but it takes a knowledgeable, firm handler who can keep him in check for this to happen. He would benefit from continued confidence-building and reinforcing his ground manners before advancing further under saddle with the help of a professional trainer.

Under saddle, Gambit is young and green, but there is a solid foundation to build on. He has respectable brakes and is responsive to the hand. He can be quick to move forward, which feels more like distraction rather than misbehavior. Gambit will need a confident, experienced rider and handler, ideally someone familiar with Arabians and their energy. He’s a powerful, athletic horse with a big presence, and in the right hands, he will make the best partner!
