My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Biggums is a female Domestic Shorthair and Tortie mixed kitty.

Ready for a science lesson? There are two scientific possibilities for how Biggums got her cute split face:

One is formed from the fusion of two separate embryos in the early stages of pregnancy, resulting in one cat with two distinct sets of DNA, called a Chimera Cat. This rare genetic occurrence often leads to a striking split-faced appearance with two different fur colors and sometimes mismatched eye colors.

The other results from early, random x-chromosome inactivation during development, which causes different fur color genes (orange or black) to express on opposite sides of the face. It's kind of like embryo origami, and is called a Mosaic Cat.

The good thing is, it’s only fur, and is not indicative of any developmental problems with her health.

While we can't know for sure which version Biggums is without a DNA test, we know she's adorable and ready for a home.

She is described as a 'Love Bug'. Do you seek affection? I do! If you also like petting, purrs, and paws kneading your lap, I think we might have a LOT in common. I'm looking for "someone who enjoys quiet times and togetherness." Could that someone be you?

It is recommended that whenever you add a new animal to your household, it is done with a slow and monitored introduction.

All our animals have been spayed/neutered (or will be arranged if currently too young).
Dogs will be tested for heart worms, vaccinated against distemper/parvo and rabies.

Cats will be vaccinated against feline distemper and feline parvo, and have been wormed.

All animals will be bathed and treated for fleas/ear mites.
Microchipping will take place at the time of adoption.

Adoption fees:
Cats - $105 for one or only
$150 for two!

Additional adoption info

The shelter screens potential adopters carefully. The application procedure requires veterinarian references and/or home visits to ensure that the animals are going to good, loving, forever homes. All animals are spayed or neutered before they are adopted, if they are old enough to undergo the procedure. Adopters of younger animals are required to sign a contract agreeing to have the animal altered when it is of the proper age.
