Their adoption process

Complete our adoption questionnaire on our website to start the adoption process. www.NorCalGSPrescue.org
Please provide as much information as you can about your family, other pets, activity level, and why you are wanting to adopt a rescue GSP. Because almost all of our dogs come to us with unknown pasts, we don't adopt to families with children under 6.

You will be called or emailed shortly after your application is received, usually within 3-5 days, to further discuss your application and what you are looking for in a GSP companion. We will also determine whether we currently have any GSPs that might be a fit for you..

If a GSP is identified as a potential match, we will have you contact the foster home to arrange a visit with the dog(s). The rescue dog will need to meet all members of the family, including other pets, at some point during the process.

If after meeting the dog, everyone agrees he/she is a good fit for you, a home visit is next. The home visit may be in-person or virtual. Home visits are required before any dog leaves our rescue program.

Once the home visit is completed and you are approved, we will ask you to complete an adoption agreement. If you do not agree to the stipulations in the agreement, we cannot adopt a dog to you. Please note that we reserve the right to deny anyone the ability to adopt any dog from our rescue program for any reason. All adoptions are at our sole discretion.

Adoption donation: Rates vary from free to $410 depending on the age of the dog. These monies help to defray some of the medical and other costs we incur while the dog is in our care. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm and fecal checked and microchipped. Occasionally, a dog requires special vet care while in our program. We will provide you with the dog's veterinary records so you will be fully informed of any known medical conditions. Please refer to each dog’s posting on our website for the latest rate information.

More about this rescue

NorCal GSP Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to placing unwanted and abandoned German Shorthaired Pointers in Northern California into new homes.

Our Mission Statement:
To bring about a time when every GSP in Northern California has a loving forever home

With your help, we accomplish this by providing veterinary care for each German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) rescue including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, heartworm tests & preventative, intestinal parasite treatment and any other medical care needed. We also: educate potential owners about the breed and its special requirements to ensure an educated decision when selecting the breed as a pet; assist owners in solving problems with their GSP in order to keep those dogs in their current home and encourage owners to use their breeders as a resource of support and information; and educate animal control officers and shelter personnel on how to properly identify a GSP and of their particular personality and behavioral traits.

Join our effort to rescue German Shorthaired Pointers:

ADOPT and give a GSP the kind of care, attention and happy life he deserves.
FOSTER while we search for an adoptive family.
VOLUNTEER to help with mailings, events, transportation, fundraising and more.
DONATE to give our rescued GSPs the care that they need.
