In February, we got a call from the Lancaster Animal Shelter that they rescued three kittens (two girls and a boy) from a hoarding situation. Dogs, cats, and reptiles were everywhere, and the kittens were in a room without a mother cat. The Shelter said, “We were amazed the kittens were alive.”
After baths, fluids, and calories, the kittens perked up nicely and became the bundles of energy and life you want in three week old kittens. We had Riot (the boy), Scamp, and Bandit.
Just as we got comfortable, the Shelter called to say they caught the mom and two more kittens. Both new kittens looked much better than the first three. We assume Mom was in the process of moving kittens and was separated from the others. Although the two new kittens looked reasonably healthy and cared for, the mom needed a full bath, which she tolerated well. Through the whole intake process, with much poking, prodding, picking and brushing, Mom earned her name - Serena. The two new kittens, however, were cranky little fighters. They are Havoc (male) and Mayhem “May” (female ).
Scamp and Bandit have been adopted together as have Havoc and Riot. They will be old enough to leave for their forever homes in early April. That leaves Serena and May who are also available to leave in early April. The vet feels Serena is less than a year old and that this was probably her first litter. Although she is young, she has been a great mom to her kittens, and she still has lots of kitten energy and playfulness. Over our years of rescue, we have adopted out many mom cats with one of the kittens, which works extremely well because they have a natural bond.
So, our hope is that Serena and May are adopted together, but we will consider adoptions as singles to homes with a cat or with a cat friendly dog. The nominal adoption fee includes FIV/FeLV testing, deworming, vaccinations, and spay/neuter with a partner clinic.
To set up a visit with Serena and May, drop me a note at cherylsferalsandfosters@gmail.com or PM me. If you are considering adopting one or both of them, please fill out and submit the adoption contract found in The Adoption Process link on my website (cherylsferalsandfosters.com). In the meantime, you can follow their journey on Facebook: Cheryl’s Ferals and Fosters Chat Group. We are a non-profit 501(c)(3).
