Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is more than just an animal welfare organization—we’re a movement of compassion in action. Founded in 2004 by four dedicated volunteers with a shared dream of helping animals at the Rowlett Animal Shelter, FRAs has grown into a vibrant team of over 400 volunteers making a difference across North Texas. Today, we proudly support four municipal shelters -- Rowlett, Garland, Richardson and Sachse -- and operate our own foster-based cat rescue program.
Our mission is to help homeless pets find loving homes faster by mobilizing volunteers, funding lifesaving programs, and advocating for improved outcomes for shelter animals. Our vision is a world where communities, volunteers, and shelters work together to ensure every adoptable pet has a safe, loving home.
Our volunteers spend thousands of hours socializing and marketing the animals for adoption, which increases the number of animals with a positive outcome. FRAs has helped countless pets avoid euthanasia, find their forever homes and live longer, healthier lives.
