Their adoption process

Our volunteer adoption staff will discuss ferret care, ferret illness, your adoption contract, fees and any additional information about the ferret you are about to take home.

Plan on being at the shelter for more than an hour to complete your adoption.

Adoption steps

  1. Interview
    1. The first step is a phone questionnaire to learn about your experience with ferrets and ensure that they are going to a good forever home
  2. Visit the Facility and Find a Pet
    1. Next you will schedule an adoption (appointment only) to meet and play with as many ferrets as you'd like
  3. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. If it's a match, you can sign the contract, pay the fee, and take your new fur child(ren) home the same day!

Go meet their pets

Our adoptions are appointment-only, but we are always looking for volunteers.

Volunteering is an amazing way to learn more about ferret care, health, medication, and meet some of us crazy ferret people. It's fun, educational, and rewarding

More about this rescue

The Greater Chicago Ferret Association (GCFA) is an educational, rescue, and adoption organization.

We have been supporting ferret owners as the only not-for-profit, no-kill shelter and club in Chicagoland for the past 30 years. Our goals are to spread the word about keeping ferrets as pets, and to care for neglected, abused and abandoned ferrets.

In addition to offering resources and information about the care and needs of the domestic ferret, we shelter hundreds of these energetic, sociable animals each year while looking for loving families to bring them to their forever homes.
