Their adoption process

All animals in the care of FRAs have their annual vaccinations, sterilization, FeLV/FIV test for cats, and a microchip. They have also received dewormer and flea preventative. While an adoption contract is required once you select a pet, there is no need to be pre-approved to adopt. You can meet and adopt a pet at the same time,

Adoption steps

  1. Meet the Pet
    1. We have cats available at PetSmart Rockwall, Rowlett and Wylie (Texas) as well as in foster homes.
  2. Sign Adoption Contract
    1. You can take home a pet the same day you meet them and decide to adopt.
  3. Pay Fee
    1. Our adoption fees vary based on age, and range from $100-$150. We sometimes have grant funding available to lower fees.

More about this rescue

Friends of Rescue Animals (FRAs) is more than just an animal welfare organization—we’re a movement of compassion in action. Founded in 2004 by four dedicated volunteers with a shared dream of helping animals at the Rowlett Animal Shelter, FRAs has grown into a vibrant team of over 400 volunteers making a difference across North Texas. Today, we proudly support four municipal shelters -- Rowlett, Garland, Richardson and Sachse -- and operate our own foster-based cat rescue program.

Our mission is to help homeless pets find loving homes faster by mobilizing volunteers, funding lifesaving programs, and advocating for improved outcomes for shelter animals. Our vision is a world where communities, volunteers, and shelters work together to ensure every adoptable pet has a safe, loving home.

Our volunteers spend thousands of hours socializing and marketing the animals for adoption, which increases the number of animals with a positive outcome. FRAs has helped countless pets avoid euthanasia, find their forever homes and live longer, healthier lives.
