Their adoption process

Once you have selected the puppy or dog you are most interested in, an initial questionnaire is done. Then, a phone interview may be conducted. A reference from a Vet or another organization you have adopted from in the past will be needed and a home check may be required.

Our adoption fee is $350 plus a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit that is required. An adoption contract will need to be signed with a "no later than" agreed-upon date for spay and neuter. Spayed and neutered dogs are $400-$450. All of our dogs come with 30 days of pet insurance as well.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Once you email us with your interest, we will send you a questionnaire to fill out.
  2. Approve Application
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. Meet the pet, talk to us, and a home visit may be required.
  4. Take the Pet Home
    1. After seeing how you and the dog interact, we will talk to you about your decision. We have a contract and a fee and if all goes well, we go

Go meet their pets

On Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 11-1, we will be at the Chuck and Don's in Boulder, CO (2626 Baseline Road, Boulder, CO 80305), with many of our available dogs and pups! Come by and say hi and get some doggie love! We cannot wait to see you! If there is one dog or pup you are more interested in, please email an inquiry prior to Saturday.

More about this rescue

We are a dog rescue focused on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations and the nearby border towns. At LightShine Canine we bring the heart of the Lakota and the needs of the dogs together. Our goal is to rescue stray, abandoned, injured or abused dogs on the Pine Ridge Reservation with the help of Lakota youth and adults working on sobriety...and to find these dogs forever homes. Our adoption fees help us continue to do this and to provide community outreach to Tribal members in the form of dog food, vaccines and spay/neuter. Our dog rescue work program is geared to ensure that the dogs we rescue and the Lakota who assist us with this dream are changed forever.
