Their adoption process
We are a foster-based, volunteer-run rescue, and all of our animals live in foster homes rather than a public shelter. Because of this, an approved application is required before scheduling any meet-and-greet.
Our adoption process is not first-come, first-served. We review all completed applications for each animal and work closely with our foster families to select the home that best fits that animal’s personality, needs, and long-term success.
Applications are typically reviewed within 10–15 days, depending on volume. Due to the number of applications we receive, we are not able to send individual denial emails. If you do not hear from us within that timeframe, you are welcome to apply for another animal that may be a better fit.
Animals remain in foster homes in Kentucky until adoption is finalized. We coordinate meet-and-greets locally or at designated transport locations for approved adopters. Out-of-state adoptions require a health certificate in accordance with state law.
Please note that submitting an application does not place a hold on an animal and does not guarantee approval. Our goal is always to make thoughtful, informed matches that support long-term success for both the animal and the adopter.

- InterviewIf we find your application to be a suitable match, we will request that you schedule a time to speak with our Adoption Director.
- Approve ApplicationUpon a successful interview, we will send you an approval email and arrange a meeting time.
- Meet the PetWe'll schedule a meet-up to see if you both are a perfect fit.
- Pay FeeWe kindly ask our adopters for an adoption donation to help cover spay/neuter, vaccinations, and basic care expenses.
- Take the Pet HomeOnce the above steps are done, you're ready to take your new pet home!

About Da Vinci’s Dream
Da Vinci’s Dream is a foster-based, volunteer-run nonprofit animal rescue based in Kentucky. As a registered 501(c)(3), our mission is to rescue dogs and cats from high-risk shelters, overcrowded rural areas, stray situations, and difficult backgrounds, then place them in safe, loving forever homes through a thoughtful and responsible adoption process.
Unlike traditional shelters, all of our animals live in foster homes where we are able to observe their personality, behavior, and daily routine in a real home environment. This allows us to provide adopters with more accurate information and make better long-term matches.
We are committed to responsible placement, which is why our adoption process includes a detailed application and review process. Applications are not first-come, first-served. Da Vinci’s Dream regularly works with shelter partners and communities throughout Kentucky, helping relieve overcrowding and giving animals a second chance. Through foster care, transport coordination, and community outreach, we are able to expand adoption opportunities beyond our immediate area and connect animals with families across multiple states.
