Stratford Animal Control is a Division of the Stratford Police Department responsible for enforcing all Connecticut State laws and Town of Stratford ordinances related to animals.

Enforcement & Public Safety

Animal Control investigates and enforces:

Roaming and stray dogs
Animal bites and rabies-related incidents
Animal cruelty and neglect
Barking dog complaints
Unreasonable tethering or confinement
Leash law and dog licensure violations
Town defecation ordinance violations
Verification of rabies vaccinations
Wildlife complaints posing an imminent public safety risk
The Division also educates the public on responsible and humane animal care and works to place impounded animals into safe, qualified homes.

Stratford Animal Control Facility

The Stratford Animal Control Facility serves as the municipal holding facility for the Town’s stray, neglected, and abused animals.
Owner-released animals are not accepted, except on a case-by-case basis, depending on the situation.

Stratford Animal Control works in partnership with the Stratford Animal Rescue Society (STARS) to facilitate and expedite the adoption of homeless animals. Together, we raise funds through private donations and public fundraising efforts to provide food, medical care, and enrichment for animals housed at the facility.

An impounded animal at the Stratford Animal Control Facility receives the following as a means of life longevity, pet overpopulation control and to make a more balanced animal for the purpose of permanent adoption:
