Mission
Bringing people and pets together to create a no-kill community.
About us:
The Culpeper Humane Society is a 501(c)3, all volunteer foster-home-based dog/cat rescue with the vision of a no-kill community. Our mission is to reduce the shelter intake and increase the shelter outtake through innovative programs designed to support those strategies. We also maintain multiple comprehensive programs in Culpeper County, Virginia to reduce suffering of pets and a wide variety of other animals so that they can live happy and healthy lives. Our Support for Paws is a community platform that includes; Pet Pantry program distributing over 23,000 lbs of free pet food annually, and Vet Assistance, along with our Care A Van that transports resident’s pets to no cost/low cost spay/neuter vet clinics. Pit Fix, spay/neuter for pit bulls and mixes are free. Further, we decrease an unwanted pet population with our advanced targeted TNR program. We help people’s pets through our Unchained Canines Program so they can lead a better life. In 2019 our President, Patricia Werick, at the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies annual conference, was awarded the prestigious Ayrshire Award. This award is presented to a Member organization or individual who has made a significant contribution to reducing the number of dogs and cats entering shelters by the advocacy for, and promotion of, affordable and available spay/neuter services through strategic and innovative programs. During this time we also worked on creating our infrastructure; documenting SOPs and animal care protocols, developing a foster care manual, creating a pet pharmacy, documenting organizational structure and job descriptions and creating an internship program.
