See someone who catches your eye? 💙 The first step is to fill out our adoption application!

We typically respond within 24 hours. If your application looks like a good match, we’ll reach out by phone for a quick chat and answer any questions you have about the cat you’re interested in. If the cat is being fostered off-site, we’ll connect you directly with their foster parent so you can learn more about their personality and routine.

If everyone still feels like it could be a great fit, the next step is a meet and greet. We offer both in-person and virtual meet and greets!

Once you’re ready to move forward, the cat will typically be brought to your home. We’ll do a quick home check to make sure everything is safe, including checking for unscreened windows, toxic plants, exposed wires curious kittens may want to chew, and other potential hazards.

Then the exciting part begins: your 10-day foster-to-adopt period! 🐾

During those 10 days, we’ll check in by text to see how everyone is adjusting, especially if you’re introducing your new cat to existing pets. We’re always available to help with questions or introductions along the way.

At the end of the 10 days, if everyone agrees it’s a match, we’ll send you a link to pay the adoption fee. You’ll then receive all medical records by email, and the cat’s microchip will be transferred into your name.

And remember: every Thistle Cat always has a safety net. We will take any cat or kitten back for any reason, at any time. If an adoption is returned within 30 days, your adoption fee may be refunded in full or credited toward another Thistle Cat adoption.
