Adoption steps
- Submit ApplicationFill out our Adoption Application. Be sure to give your vet's office permission to speak with us!! We need this to process your application.
- Meet the PetWe invite you to come see our kitties for a "meet & greet" to see if you make a connection. You let us know if you'd like to adopt.
- InterviewWe review references and get back to you within 24-48 hours with an approval.
- Approve ApplicationIf you are approved to adopt, we will reach out to you and schedule a time to pickup your new family member(s)!
- Sign Adoption ContractWe will review and finalize the adoption contract with you, and go over all of their medical paperwork.
- Pay FeeOur adoption fee is $150 per cat payable by cash or check which covers spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, FIV/FeLV testing, etc.
- Take the Pet HomeWe will follow up with you at 2 days and 2 weeks post-adoption to see how your new cat(s) are doing and provide you support if needed.

More about this rescue
Animals in Distress is a 501(c)(3), all volunteer, non-profit organization that has serviced the Mercer County area for more than 50 years. Established in 1969, we are one of the oldest rescue groups in the area. Our primary focus has been the rescue of abandoned, abused and neglected cats and kittens.
