My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Look out, everyone!! Willow and Whim now live in separate foster homes, and Willow is really coming into her own. No longer living in the shadow of her bolder, bossier sister, Willow is proving to be a lively, delightful, impish little pup in her own right!

At just 4 months old, Willow is discovering how exciting and fun the world can be and she’s a cuddlebug no longer. In fact, she’s pretty sure she’s Little Miss Independent, ready to take on the world - unless of course something scary comes along! Then she scurries back to her friends. Willow continues to be a fairly confident and curious pup overall, but remains sensitive to and very aware of sudden changes in the environment, as well as touch, noise, and space, like a lot of Border Collies. Her love of toys continues as well, and her fabulously imaginative games full of leaping, tossing, pouncing, play bows, and growling at any and all objects are a constant source of entertainment for her humans -- we are hoping to get a video of her antics soon!

Without her sister around, she has really taken to kicking around with her 3 older canine foster siblings, and takes every opportunity she can to get them to play with her – she looooves to get them to chase her! She is a remarkably tenacious and tough little cookie, getting bigger and stronger every day, and she really enjoys being out on the trail exploring, come rain or snow or sun! She loves diving around in the snow and chasing snowballs down hills, will take a running start to slide down icy areas, and is always sticking her head under the pitcher when water is being poured into the water bowl. She is no crybaby and surprisingly has no problem keeping up with the bigger dogs on longer outdoor adventures – even in deep snow - then comes home ready to play when everyone else is looking for a nap!! Willow is shaping up to be a higher energy BC and will need a family ready for a busy bee BC puppy. She’s athletic of course and particularly adult-like and coordinated in her movements – she really uses her front feet more than some, will bat at things and prance, and has a beautiful, stretched out gallop – and we think dog sports of some kind could be in her future should her adopters be so inclined. Willow lives with a dog-savvy feline in her foster home and although she does enjoy pestering the cat (who, to be fair, frequently teases Willow as well), she is not intense about it and is pretty harmless in her intentions so we think she could easily live with a tolerant, dog-savvy cat. She is also learning about horses, and shows a healthy respect for them. The jury remains out on herding instinct – nothing screamingly obvious so far.

Although she is still far more of a free spirit than her sister, with a little training effort Willow is definitely showing the capacity to focus well for a pup her age and is learning quickly. She’s cratetrained (but needs a little incentive to get in sometimes) and nearly housetrained with a structured routine and many visits to the yard daily. She’s hopelessly crazy about food, is willing to learn, and has met with good success sitting, coming when called, and sitting at doorways so far. She is also pretty good at determining what is appropriate to chew (with a little guidance here and there) and is hard at work learning to wear a collar and a leash. Of course, Willow is still just a puppy and there’s soooo much more to learn…she will need many more hours of consistent, reward-based, gentle training, not to mention ongoing socialization, to become a well-mannered dog.

All in all, Willow continues to be a charmer. With her soft coat which grows longer every day, flashy tricolor markings, and pink snip on the nose (and yes – she’s growing into her ears, and they both stand up now all the time!) Willow is irresistible – but she doesn’t want to be doted on! Willow wants adventure and action and will thrive in a home who can give her the physical and mental stimulation she craves. If you love a pup full of curiosity, energy, and potential, Willow may be the one for you!

Willow is current on vaccinations and deworming, and her adoption will include a $100 spay deposit that will be refunded to her adoptive family once proof of her spay is provided (when she is ~6 months old). Willow is living in a loving foster home near Jackson, WY.
