My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What's that up in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Snoopy and the Red Baron? No but close! It's super Max, winging his way to his foster home, surveying the land below him and getting ready for his next great adventure. Max came to MWCR from a shelter where he had been surrendered by his family because his owner's asthma was getting worse. Until then, Max had lived his entire life with one family after having been purchased from a pet store. When he was surrendered, his owner said he was a Sheltie mix, but his coloring and curled tail suggest that there might also be a bit of Husky or American Eskimo in his ancestry. But whatever lies in his genes, Max is one sweet and loving boy.

Max is gentle and affectionate with people of all ages. He was raised with children ranging from 6 months to 11 years, and really likes the children he has been exposed to since coming into rescue. He loves to play and is always ready for action, but is equally happy to just relax with his people. He is not clingy or needy, but doesn't like to be left alone and would do best in a home where someone was around most of the time. He loves the snow (always a plus for a dog living here on the frozen tundra) and likes to eat it, pounce on it, burrow through it and roll around in it.

Max gets along well with the other dogs at his foster home, and though he plays energetically, he is not rough, even with his smaller, canine, foster sister. According to his original owners, he is also fine with cats, though during a brief stay prior to his transport, he did not get along with resident kitties. It might be best for him to live in a cat free environment, though it is possible he would get along with a dog-savvy cat.

Max quickly adjusted to his foster home and has been an ideal houseguest. He is fully housetrained and will sit and shake on command. He loves to go for walks and steals the show as he prances along next to his foster mom. He rides well in the car and also enjoyed his airplane ride to his foster home. He is interested in snatching any tasty treats that his foster family foolishly leaves too near the edge of the counter, but they are working on that. He likes to jump up on people for pets and hugs, though he is quite gentle about it.

Max is looking for a forever home where his people will be with him much of the time; a fenced yard would be highly desirable since he likes to dash off to explore. He would make a great companion for children of any age and would also be a wonderful playmate for another, moderately active dog. Max would also enjoy a family who owned their own private plane, since he makes a great go-pilot, but that one is not a deal breaker
