My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chloe - You've come a long way Baby!!

Update: 10.25.06. What a difference a couple of months makes! Chloe is a 6 year-old rough tricolor collie who came into rescue on 8.30.06 when Sacramento County called one of our volunteers to come and get Chloe. As you can see, she had hair on only about 1/3 of her body and she had failed "health" which means that she would be put down that day if we did not accept her into rescue. Because of her patterned hair loss, we knew her problem was low thyroid--very easy to fix. Yet her owners had tied her to a lamp post and left town without her, leaving her to her fate and her salvation to good Samaritans.

Chloe is thriving in her foster home. She has grown back just about all of her hair, and she gained 12 lbs. One of her volunteers called her a "character" and is she ever. If she could, she'd describe herself in a single's listing as "One-person dog seeks one-dog person. I just need somebody to love." Chloe is the perfect family pet dog. She acts like she misses a cat friend and she loves people. She really wants to be devoted to her person and shower that person with love. She walks well on a leash and is housebroken. She is very attentive and has a great natural recall. She does not want to share her human's attention with other dogs, however, so we have to place her as an only dog.

Chloe is one of the only collies her foster mom has known to HOWL. She loves howling with her person. She throws her head back and lets her inner wolf come out. She was in heat when she arrived with us from the shelter, as well as being in compromised health, so we only recently had her spayed Like many bitches coming out of heat, she is going through a false pregnancy and motherhood and is busily caring for her "puppies" as you can see in these pictures.

You can also see in Chloe's after picture that she still suffers from the effects of discoid lupus. Her vet however said that her lesions are quiet now and we see the signs of recovery already. Once she recovers from her spay surgery, we'll put her on a short course of prednisone to see if we can get hair to grow back on her nose. With proper care and good nutrition, she should fully recover.

Chloe is busy arranging her "puppies" in her "den". She insists on carrying a "puppy" with her no matter where she goes, including on her walks (eeeyew, her stuffed toys get really slimy!)

Thanks to all of the generous donors who helped support Chloe's recovery. She is now ready for adoption to the right home. If you want a totally devoted companion and have no other dogs, Chloe may be just the collie for you.
