UPDATE 7/29/11: Here are some new pictures of Marco. I had to cut his hair because he got his ultrasound today and they had to shave him half way up his sides. I also had to cut the mats out of him. But, I think he looks cute. My Vet told me that his liver looks perfectly normal but, the vessels look wierd. He is going to confer with some other vets in the area to see what they think it is. He said if its a liver shunt then its farther from the liver than he has ever seen but its still a possibility. He said that he may be able to create small blood clots in his stomach. I will continue to keep everyone informed as I find out. I will know a little more on Monday.
UPDATE 7/14/11: I had another of the Vets look at Marcos charts. He doesnt recommend him being under anasthesia either. He said it could be possible if Gassed but that it would still be extremely dangerous and he would have to be monitored. He said that Marco would not live as long as he should because of the shunt and put him on Lactulose 6.5 ml three times a day to help his body get rid of waste. Otherwise he is healthy and happy and full of energy. Marco loves to eat ice. Hes so snuggly and lovey. My opinion is "I dont think having him neutered is worth the risk!" Marcos diet should remain Protein restricted as much as possible. I will not be giving him any treats except carrots and other low protein veggies. And, of course Ice. lol
Initial bio 7/9/11: Marco is an adorable 11 pound Yorkie Male (intact). He is 1 year and 4 months old. His most outstanding feature is his long curly tail. I absolutely love that he has a tail. He is Silver and Blonde. He has been to obedience school and is piddle pad trained/outdoor trained. He does bark excessively when he wants to go out, eat or play. Marco is owner surrendered and has been very well taken care of. His owner is in Graduate school and thinks he deserves more than she can offer him at this time. He comes with an assortment of toys and belongings,2 suitcases as a matter of fact. haha! He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and will be microchipped on Mon. 7-11-2011. The Microchip was provided by owner. Marco loves other dogs and cats. I have no children so I am unsure as to his behavior with them. He is crate trained. Marco is on a special diet due (Hills Diet Prescription L/D) to the Vet. saying he is a liver shunt dog. He is currently on Interceptor heartworm protection, I am going to check into putting him on Trifexis at his Vet. visit on Monday. He takes a vitamin supplement once a day on an empty stomach. He is given treats by the Blue Buffalo Company and prefers the Chicken and Turkey treats. Marco has not been neutered due to Vet. recommendation that he would not survive the anesthetic. Marco is registered via the Continental Kennel Club. Marco has never bitten a person or animal. Marco also likes to travel and does not get car sick.
