My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adele was released from a breeder and is adjusting to home life with her foster family. She is a very sweet, tiny Sheltie girl, who is looking for a home with a secure, fully fenced yard, a smaller canine pal, and a patient forever family that will help her to adjust as she is ready, without forcing her to adapt or expecting more from her than she is able to do at this time.

AGE: 5 years
SIZE: 13 lbs.
TEMPERAMENT: Adele is a shy and sweet girl who responds best with people who take things very slowly with her and do not pressure her to interact. She spends much of her time in her "safe spots" in the house, and her forever family should be comfortable with allowing her free access to her chosen "safe spot" in her new home. Now that Adele has been in rescue since October, her foster family is beginning to encourage her to spend some time with them outside of her crate for a short period every evening, and she will now hop on up on the couch when it is quiet. We believe Adele has had little or no experience living in a home as part of a family, so tremendous patience is needed.
FENCE: A securely FENCED YARD with secure gates, no small gaps, and with direct access from the house is REQUIRED (wood, chain link or vinyl fence). NO EXCEPTIONS - she is a high flight risk and runs when frightened.
DOGS: Adele gets along with the other dogs in her foster home and will play with them some outside. Adele is looking for a forever home with a smaller, stable, social canine companion of similar size to show her the ropes.
CATS: Unknown - no cats in her foster home. May be fine with a cat.
KIDS: Unknown - no children in her foster home. She is very frightened by loud noises. Adele will need a home without children or with older (age 12+) children who will be respectful of her space.
CRATE-TRAINED: Yes, and Adele likes to spend time in her crate. She will need a forever home that will allow her to use her crate whenever she needs.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Adele has not had any formal or informal training. Her foster family is working on building trust with her. We highly recommend taking her to a training class that uses positive methods only (once she bonds with her new family), to build her confidence and to help her build trust with her adopter.
LEASH MANNERS: Adele does not yet walk on a leash. She is very smart and will likely catch on in time. We advise against taking a newly adopted dog out for a walk for the first month anyway, to allow the dog to get used to the new environment first.
CAR RIDES: Adele rides well in a crate in the car.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Adele is pretty low-key so far. In time, as she adjusts, her activity level may rise.
BARKING: Adele is quiet for a Sheltie so far (this may change!)
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues. She recently had a dental after coming into rescue.

Adele needs a home with a secure, fully fenced yard and a stable canine friend her size. She would like a quiet household where she can get lots of attention with someone who has the patience to let her come out of her shell in her own time.

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Adele's adoption fee is $250.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
