My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey there Folks! I'm Roxy and I would love to tell you about myself. Come, sit and pet me. I'll give you some sweet Brittany kisses in return!!

I love to go for walks, and even jog a bit. I enjoy food immensely and can dig into my dinner like you wouldn't believe! I enjoy car rides and am an eager companion on little jaunts. I am a little slow on the stairs, but can go up and down just fine, especially if the household cat begs to be chased. I get so much attention and have so many adventures here! I've overcome a few health problems, and am looking and feeling great now. In addition to the cat, I love my foster brothers, a 9 year old male Brittany and a 2 yr old human boy. They're both great fun. I'm a little too interested in the resident ferret for her safety, so foster mom keeps us apart. She does make me feel really lively, though! I've got a great hunting drive for being "just" a pet. I'll be having my teeth cleaned soon if my heart murmur allows it. My vet says I'll keep improving with good care and love. Well, I'm off for a nap on this hot, breezy afternoon.

HISTORY:
I had my very own family for 13 yrs, but when they were moving in May '07, they didn't want to bring me along. They said they worried about how I could handle the stairs and the stress of moving. What about the stress of moving AND never seeing my people again?!?! I guess that wasn't important to them. I was only 8 weeks old when I went to live with them, so my foster home has been a big shock, but I'm taking it really well. When I showed up at my foster home, my hair was falling out in giant chunks, held together with brown gooey stuff. My mouth was infected badly from a huge matted mess of hair and food and foreign debris. When foster mom removed it, my gums bled profusely, but thankfully it stopped quickly. After a good bath and clipping, I was covered in bald patches, with irritated skin and that brown goo everywhere. I went to the vet straight away and they were horrified at how I looked. I started on antibiotics and a raw diet and Revolution for possible scabies right away. They said I need a major oral cleaning, but need an ultrasound first to make sure my heart won't be affected by the anesthesia. Those first days, I honestly felt like never taking another step and had no glow left. Things are so different for me now that I can't believe how bad it was just a five short weeks ago.
