My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Woof! My name is Boomer and I will be 3 years old on October 3, 2012. I am a blue, male weimaraner who was recently adopted in June. Sadly, my former owners were moving to the Netherlands and my sister, Bella (a tan weim) and I were unable to go. Both of my families have young children (ages 4 to 13) and I love the “little people”. I sit, shake & gently take treats from my family as well as allow the young ones to kennel me. I even corral my new “sister” while she is picking blackberries just to assure that she is safe! I enjoy running with the kids, watching them ride bikes, checking out the garden and playing tug with my rope toy. I am also learning (slowly) to play fetch!

I am kennel trained, but my new “Dad” freed me from my kennel the first night and I sleep very soundly on the floor next to the bed. I need to be in my kennel if you are away from home for an extended period of time, otherwise I have been known to chew on wood. I have been comfortably crated for 8-10 hours, but my family only does that when absolutely necessary. I do not have any accidents in my kennel and I have been sent to a dog kennel too and have fared well. When I am with someone in the house, there is no need for me to be kenneled. But, I do go in my kennel to be “off duty” when I need downtime!

I am trained with invisible fencing and respect my boundaries, I have been known to escape in my former home, but I always come when called back to return. Sadly, I can not be in a home with other small animals. I “captured” the current owner’s cat and that is why they feel the need to place me up for adoption. There is another cat living in the house and I can not be trusted with her. I was also introduced to a puppy who I thought was something I could hunt, I guess I am supposed to be nice to other small canines.

I do not beg for food and will lay down during mealtimes when directed out of the kitchen or dining room. Although, I do like cheese! If you leave yummy cheese or other treats out on your counter, I may just help myself. (I think I can be trained to ignore it though, we are working on that).

When I am not outside running on my property, I can usually be found right at someone’s feet, laying on the porch, in the middle of the kitchen or laying on top of a game that you are trying to play. I also think I am a lap dog when you sit on the couch, but am not allowed on the current owner’s furniture and have not had a problem as long as I have a comfortable spot to be close to you.

I am good with visitors (just not small animals) that come to our home, I will bark so the visitors know I am there, sniff them and then go lie down.

I loved going in my old family’s car, I have only had a few rides with the new and they don’t like it when I try to sit in the car seats. I think I need a divider in the far back of the vehicle so I don’t bother anyone.

I will bring my own large kennel, feeding station, collars and a leash. My kids like to leave a kong toy filled with peanut butter in my kennel if they will be away for an extended period during the day and I LOVE that.

I am a loyal, devoted member of my family and I know you will love me at “hello”!
