My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Marietta is a 3 year old Aussie mix with a full tail. Marietta was brought to animal control in 2011 with a litter of puppies. She was extremely shy and shutdown at rescue. Shortly after entering foster care, Marietta broke lead in her foster home. Despite numerous attempts to get her back to safety, she was never found again.
Fast forward to Fall of 2012 when a volunteer spotted her in a “Found Dog” ad on Craigslist. The “finder” of Marietta commented she’d taken up residence at his home for about 3 months. Turns out, he was not far at all from where she was lost. With his patience and determination, Marietta was returned to the safety of foster care, more than a year of being on her own. This is a smart and resourceful little dog.

Despite Marietta’s distrust of people, you will not find a quieter and more gentle dog. Marietta does have some obstacles to finding a good home (mainly just her shyness); however she has so much going for her in the positive. She is wonderful with other dogs – in fact her new home absolutely must have another dog, this is non-negotiable. She also must have a securely fenced in back yard as well as a new owner that will understand that she must be watched carefully when first arriving in a new home to make sure that she doesn’t find any weaknesses in the fence to escape from. Marietta is also wonderful with cats. She does not require a crate at all in her foster home. Marietta will not potty in the house or disturb anything that belongs to people or other dogs. She is a very quiet little dog that needs a very understanding person to help her achieve her potential and keep her safe. While she is fine with children, we require she goes to a home where there aren’t any simply because of a child’s propensity for leaving doors open. Marietta has proven she can live on her and take care of herself and if she were lost again, she would not readily approach a person
